Graphical Abstract

The Front Cover shows the thiol ligand migration from the gold nanocluster to the surface once it has been supported, forming sulfur oxide species. In their Communication, B. Zhang et al. demonstrate that both pre-treatment temperature and support oxide influence the ligand migration from the clusters to the support. The ligand transformation to SOx species plays an important role and should not be neglected when interpreting catalytic data. The fate of the protecting ligand shell of thiolate gold clusters during catalyst preparation was revealed for the first time, utilizing XAFS. More information can be found in the Communication by B. Zhang et al. on page 5372 in Issue 23, 2018 (DOI: 10.1002/cctc.201801474).
