Graphical Abstract

Dithioacetals are frequently used in organic chemistry, but examples of unsymmetrical dithioacetals are less common, presumably due to the lack of a general synthetic protocol towards these compounds. A direct synthesis of a variety of unsymmetrical dithioacetals with one aromatic and one aliphatic thiol moiety from the aldehyde and thiols has been developed. Statistical product distribution is overcome by kinetic control delivering unsymmetrical dithioacetals in high yields. More information can be found in the Communication by S. Bognar and M. van Gemmeren on page 4859.
